DINOSAURS- PART 1
DINOSAURS
The word dinosaur comes from the Greek language and means ‘terrible Lizard’. A person who studies dinosaurs is known as a Paleontologist
More than 700 varied
species of dinosaurs have already been discovered and the list continues to
grow with latest researches regularly adding new names.
Where
and when did dinosaurs live?
More than 250 million years ago, dinosaurs roamed
on Earth for about 150 million years before they became extinct. Since no one
has actually seen the dinosaurs, all the information we have about them has
been interpreted by scientists on the basis of their fossils. Their fossils
have been found in all the continents including Antarctica.
Why
did dinosaurs have claws?
The herbivore dinosaurs used their claws to dig
the earth, to grasp the branches or may be to pierce through objects. The
carnivores used them to tear apart their prey or to fight their competitors.
Were
dinosaurs clever or foolish?
The dinosaurs did not have the same level of
intelligence. While some of them were absolutely dump or stupid, the others
were comparatively better. Troodon is believed to be one of the most
intelligent amongst all.
The mighty Stegosaurus who weighted as much as
3000 kilograms mighty have been the foolish of all the dinosaurs
despite its
bulky and scary look. Its brain was just about 3 millimetre long and weighted
not more than 75 grams.
