DELHI
Delhi is situated along the banks of River Yamuna. It is believed that the city of Delhi was first built by the Pandava Kings. It was then called Indraprastha. Thousands of years later, a king called Shah Jahan rebuilt the city and named it Shahjahanabad.
New Delhi was built as the capital of India by the English. It was planned by Sir Edwin Lutyens. The official name of Delhi is the National Capital Territory of Delhi. It is surrounded by Uttar Pradesh in the east and by Haryana on the other three sides.

MUGHAL GARDENS
Delhi is very hot in summers and very cold in winters. Hot and dry winds, called loo, blow in the months of May and June. It rains mostly between July and September.
The main offices of the Government of India are located in New Delhi. The president of India lives in the Rashtrapati Bhavan. It has the beautiful Mughal Gardens.

Parliament House
There are two office blocks of the Central Secretariat where ministers have their offices. The Prime Minister’s office is in the South Block. Other ministers and departments of the government work from buildings around the South Block. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha hold their meetings in the Parliament House. The governments of other countries also have their offices in Delhi. These are known as Embassies or High Commissions.

Red Fort
The Metro is a fast means of transport in Delhi. It has made travel easy and comfortable. Tourists from all over world visit Delhi. The city has many famous monuments. The Red Fort and the Jama Masjid, made of red sandstone, were built by Shah Jahan. On 15th August every year the Prime Minister of India hoist the National Flag at the Red Fort. Other interesting places to visit are the- Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, Lodi Gardens, India Gate, Raj Ghat,  Shanti Van, Shankar’s International Museum, Zoo and Dilli Haat.
