BORLEY RECTORY: ENGLAND'S MOST HAUNTED HOUSE
BORLEY RECTORY: ENGLAND'S MOST HAUNTED HOUSE
Borley Rectory was
built in 1863. As its name suggests, it was the residence of the Borley Village
rector. It is often said to have been the most haunted house in England because
of the spooky events that began taking place there in the early 1900s. People
noticed strange smells, the sound of horses, ghostly shadows and areas of the
house becoming particularly cold. And a chilling fact is that someone or something
actually tried to communicate with one of the occupants in 1930. Marianne Foyster,
the wife of the rector at that time, found strange scrawled messages, asking
for help, appearing on the walls of the house. Who wrote them? Was it the spirit
of a murdered nun apparently buried under the house? Well, no one really knows.
Though the rectory was demolished in 1944, its legacy continues, and the site
is believed to be one of the scariest places in England.
