Chloroform

Chloroform-

Chloroform was discovered in July 1831 by an American physician,  Samuel Guthrie. The name ' Chloroform ' was given by Jean-Baptiste Dumas in 1834. Professor James Simpson discovered the anaesthetic properties of Chloroform and successfully introduced it for general medicines.
Chloroform was used as an inhaled anaesthetic during surgery. Inhaling Chloroform vapours depresses the central nervous system of a patient and makes a patient unconscious. Doctors perform simple surgery or other painful operations by making the patients unconscious through the use of Chloroform. Before the use of Chloroform, surgery was very painful.
